Derrick Leron Williams and his sister were raised by a single Mother in La Mirada, California. As an athlete, he made a name for himself in his first year at College with the Arizona Wildcats and was voted ‘Freshman of the Year’.
After a second successful College season, Derrick registered himself for the 2011 NBA draft and was taken with the second overall pick by the Minnesota Timberwolves. As Kevin Love’s back-up, the 2.03 meter rookie forward achieved an average of eight points and 4.7 rebounds per game.
After departing Minnesota in 2013, he had spells at various clubs in Sacramento, New York and Miami, before eventually finding himself at the Cleveland Cavaliers, were he reached the 2017 NBA final alongside his hero LeBron James. With 428 NBA games under his belt and a spell in China, Williams opted for a European adventure in the summer of 2018. Wearing the Bayern jersey, it did not take long for the down-to-earth American to show off his quality in the EuroLeague and the BBL.
