FC Bayern Basketball is strengthening its training structure: Emilio Kovacic joined the German champions as Head of Player Development & Scouting at the beginning of 2019. In this newly created position, the Croatian-born Kovacic will work individually with players from the successful junior group right up to the professionals as well as expanding the department in terms of personnel.
For the past five years Kovacic has worked for the The Phoenix Suns of the NBA as Director of International Scouting. He was a successful basketball player himself and won the European Championship with the juniors of the former Yugoslavia in 1985. After an education in the USA (Grand Canyon College, Phoenix/Arizona State and Biola University) he started his professional career. Kovacic won national titles with KK Zadar, Cibona Zagreb and Olimpija Ljubljana. He played in the EuroLeague for a total of seven seasons (including Fortitudo Bologna) and was MVP of the Croatian League in 1998/99.
After finishing his career in 2004, Emilio Kovacic ran a basketball school in his hometown of Zadar for several years. He is married and father of two adult children.
